In the past few days I’ve seen a couple of newspaper articles that, in my mind, provide validation for the Zone/Paleo diets. The first, “Analysis fails to link saturated fat with heart disease“, is a pretty straightforward support of these diet philosophies. The second, Surgery more effective for treating obese teens is more of a ‘WTF are we doing to our teenagers?’ – social commentary, not in-depth analysis.
I’m trying to track down the original study to find out what “lifestyle program” was used for the researchers’ analysis. I’d hazard a guess that it suggests following some variant/equivalent  of Canada’s Food Guide.

Regarding the second article, we can all agree that teenage obesity is a major problem that can lead to a lifetime of health issues. However, gastric surgery is a radical option at any age, and should be considered a last resort.
