This year was my first quarterfinals at Colosseum, and it was a blast!

The workouts themselves were simple in essence, but tricky with their volume and expectations.

I hit the weightlifting WOD first, arguably the most intimidating for me, being weaker in my lifting and strength. Since 1 + 2 were due first I did them next and finished off with the third workout on the last day.

Here are a few things I learnt:

1

Colosseum has some pretty caring and hardworking people, who have made me feel so welcome to push myself and be ok with failing along the way.

2

What’s better than surprises? Results. When I first started CrossFit, I was addicted to the “magic” of competition, and how anything could happen with enough adrenaline and determination. BUT, what’s more exciting now is putting in the work, trusting myself, and seeing how hard work equals real results. No fairy dust or miracles, just consistency and determination.

One and done is more than enough! I found myself with creeping thoughts of redos all week, but had to come to terms with the truth of the matter. The point of the open is to test your quality of movement, gauge your ability across the world, and track your progress from years past. Your first attempt is generally a strong enough indicator of your fitness level, and getting a few extra reps here or there won’t make enough of a difference in the long run. There is no shame in being honest with where you’re at, only power!

Can’t wait to keep getting at it, and if I haven’t met you yet, looking forward to meeting you soon!
